Parents and families
Parent and family sessions: a plan for the week
Seven things to know before you call.
Who it helps
Parents who are tired of the morning, and families who want everyone in the room at once. A parent session can run alongside a child's or teen's, or on its own.
What a session is like
Fifty minutes of talking, in person or by video. We look at what the school week is like, what has been tried, and a plan for the next one.
The method
Parent coaching and family therapy approaches, with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) ideas where they fit. Your clinician tells you which training they hold for each method.
What it is not
Not blame, and not a verdict on your parenting. We also don't take a side between parents who disagree, and we don't evaluate custody.
Talking with the school
Your clinician can help you write to the school, prepare for an attendance, 504 or IEP meeting, and join one by phone with your written permission.
By video
Parent sessions can be by video from anywhere in Tennessee, where both clinicians are licensed. You must be in Tennessee during the session.
Fees, receipts for reimbursement and the Good Faith Estimate are explained on How fees work.
Questions
Three questions about this service
Do both parents have to come?
No. One parent or guardian is enough to start. Both are welcome, and we meet people where they are.
Can we come without our child?
Yes. Many families begin with a parent session, to plan how to bring the child in.
Do you work with the school?
With your written permission. We can write a letter, join a meeting by phone, and help you prepare what to ask for.
Ready to ask about a first session?
A parent or guardian makes the first call. It takes about fifteen minutes.
