Your first session

What happens before, during and after

A first session is 50 minutes, with a parent or guardian in the room.

  1. Step 1: Before: the call

You tell us your name, how to reach you and when you are free. In a short call we say which clinician and time might suit.

  2. Step 2: Before: the paperwork

We send consent and the fee in writing, with a Good Faith Estimate if you pay without insurance. Intake forms are on the practice's own portal; we link to it.

  3. Step 3: Arriving

The office is on the ground floor. Come a few minutes early; the waiting area has a bench and a plant, and nothing is expected of a child there.

  4. Step 4: During

The clinician explains how they work and the limits of confidentiality. You describe what the school mornings are like. The child or teen says as much or as little as they like.

  5. Step 5: A first step

You leave with one thing to try this week, and a time for the next session. Sessions are 50 minutes.

  6. Step 6: After

If it doesn't feel like the right fit, tell us. We'll suggest the other clinician, or give you names of colleagues.
